Tuning In
Tuning into your breath.
Tuning into your physical body.
Tuning into your emotions.
Tuning into energy.
Tuning in to your intuition.
For my students and clients, it's the first place we start. Although we're working together in a very physical way with movement and exercise and the physical body, they soon realize that it's all connected. When you start to tune into your physical body and control the control-ables, it leads to all sorts of changes in other dimensions of your life. I can't tell you how many women tell me they "feel stronger, and not just physically."
Your body is truly, truly amazing. Have you ever taken a moment to scan through your body from tip to toe? To tune into your body from deep in the marrow of your bones to the outermost layer of skin, and maybe even the space surrounding your body? To notice without judgement?
Even just your breathing.... have you ever taken a moment to really appreciate the miracle of every breath you take? You certainly can think about your breath and control it in more ways than you can imagine. But you don't have to think about it because your brain will keep you breathing in and breathing out all day long while you're going about your business getting your things done - even while you're sleeping! And if everything's working well and your brain will go right ahead and choose the most optimal breathing strategy for the situation at hand - sitting quietly, sprinting, final relaxation in yoga.
Tuning in. It's really important. So important that we start every Not Strictly Pilates class with a bit of tuning in. Then we do some hard, but fun work experiencing really being in our bodies. And then we wrap up with a deeper round of tuning in and a healing meditation.
If this sounds like something you could use more of, check out my Pilates Foundations class series Mondays at 8:30 am (from the comfort and convenience of your own home!) starting November 14th.
In this class you will tune into your body and breath, optimize your alignment and breathing, connect to your deep core muscles and begin to understand what you're trying to do with some of the most common exercises, and how to modify them for where you are at today. You'll feel stronger and more confident, and most importantly you'll be learning how to manage your own body in any exercise class you take so you can avoid getting hurt AND get more out of it!
I'd love to have you join us!
